Installation
![]() |
Note: Enter lk2nd fastboot mode by pressing only Volume Down + Power (not the Home button). Pressing the Home button additionally will bring you to the Samsung Download mode. |
- Install lk2nd (alternative bootloader that provides a standard fastboot interface)
- Follow Qualcomm_Snapdragon_410/412_(MSM8916)#Installation.
Touch keys
See Tm2-touchkey. The touch keys are handled through the Zinitix touchscreen, but the Input section should mostly apply.
Notes
Touchscreen works for the most part, but acts weirdly with some on-screen keyboards and DE's. (Fixed in newer kernel versions with an update to the zinitix module, although multi-touch seems to still be absent as of kernel 6.1.0)
A driver needs to be written for the backlight, lcd will be always on (driver currently WIP, see https://github.com/msm8916-mainline/linux/pull/217). In DE's with auto-rotation, it should be turned off as rotation is fairly uncontrolled (needs investigation).
Backlight
The previously mentioned backlight driver does work (tested in plasma-mobile with kernel 6.1), however you need to apply this patch and build it with envkernel.sh
A more optimal solution would be for the driver to be sent upstream.
Battery
Currently there is no charging or battery status reporting in the mainline kernel.
samsung-j5 and samsung-j5x seem to share the same SM5703 chip as this tablet, so work from there would most likely apply to this tablet too.
