Installing custom recovery and getting a root shell

Since this is a MediaTek device, it's possible to bypass bootloader lock's limitations by installing a custom recovery (also needed to root your device) via SP Flash Tool (at the time of writing, mtkclient doesn't detect this device properly). By running that tool, you can also flash other partition on your device, if you need.

More in detail:

  1. Get ClockworkMod Recovery (compatible with your device) v5.5.0.4 from this link
  2. Get UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip package (i.e. from this link) and copy that zip file to a TF card. Remember to put TF card onto your device, once done
  3. Follow the steps described in this section (make sure to check RECOVERY partition and select cwm-recovery-OT-7041D.img file)
  4. Remove the battery and insert that in your device again
  5. Enter recovery mode ( Volume Up and Volume Down to move up and down, Power to accept) and:
    1. Select mounts and storage
    2. Select mount /sdcard and mount /data
    3. Go back and select install zip from sdcard
    4. Select choose zip from sdcard
    5. Select UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
    6. Once flashing is completed, reboot the device
  6. Done (after reboot, you'll notice SuperSu app already installed in your Android OS). Congrats, your device is now rooted!
Notice You can get a root shell by running adb shell and then su commands in a terminal from a host PC
