How to enter Android Recovery mode
- Turn off the tablet and disconnect it from PC
- Press the Vol+ button and Power button together for 2 seconds
- The tablet comes into Android Recovery mode and the screen shows Android logo.
How to enter APX mode
Note: APX mode is a special low-level diagnostic and device-programming mode for NVIDIA Tegra–based devices. The firmware implementing APX mode is stored in the boot ROM and hence can never be changed. |
- Turn off the tablet and disconnect it from PC
- Press the Rotation button and hold it
- Press the Power button for approximately 2 seconds
- The tablet screen keeps black
- Connect the tablet via Micro-USB cable to PC
- The PC will recognize the tablet as APX device in Linux, it's recognized as:
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 0955:7820 NVIDIA Corp. T20 [Tegra 2] recovery mode
What can be done in APX mode
- NVIDIA's nvflash program can be used for controlling/manipulating a device in APX mode.
- nvflash can be downloaded and extracted from NVIDIA Developer site.
- nvflash introduction on XDA.
- NVIDIA's tegrarcm program can be used to send code to Tegra devices.
- tegrarcm is available on GitHub.
How to exit APX mode
Press and hold the Power button for more than 6 seconds. The device should immediately boot into normal mode.

- Some work on mainline has been done: https://www.rot13.org/~dpavlin/presentations/dc2019-mainline_kernel_tegra20.pdf although it seems the changes were made to the tegra20 ventana dts instead of creating a new dts for the indigo.
