The Qualcomm MSM8960 (Snapdragon S4 series) is a high-end smartphone SoC in 2012. It contains two ARMv7 Krait 200 CPU cores at 1.5 and Krait 300 at 1.7 GHz for overclocked variants, an Adreno 225 GPU (400 MHz), a LPDDR2 memory controller (up to 500 MHz) and radio elements including LTE. The chip is produced in 28nm LP (low power process) at TSMC.
Variants
The names of these chips are quite simple. The second number stands for the modem: 0 for external, 2 for UMTS, 6 for UMTS + CDMA, and 9 for LTE. Unlike the MSM8930, the APQ8060AB, the MSM8260AB (usually offered as the MSM8260A Pro), the MSM8960T, the MSM8960AB (usually offered as the MSM8960T Pro), and the MSM8960DT are overclocked variants, all of which operate at 1.7 GHz. Only the overclocked variants of these chips are included in the Krait 300 series. The rest are in the Krait 200 series and include the APQ8060A, the MSM8260A, and the MSM8660A.
The AA suffix doesn't exist for APQ/MSM8x60 |
WARNING: The APQ8060, MSM8260 and MSM8660 (without an A suffix) belong to the Scorpion family and not the Krait family. |
There are different variants of SoCs, according to socinfo:

- Very similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064). The biggest difference is the number of cores and GPU. Most of pin and memory mapping is compatible, though, there are some caveats (e.g. different numbers of GSBIs).
