How to enter flash mode
While the phone is off, hold the + buttons together for a few seconds.
Installation
Make sure you have unlocked the bootloader.Like other Xiaomi devices, the user will have to acquire the bootloader unlock key: https://en.miui.com/unlock
The device will not unlock if the device isn't 7 days old (from the time when your device connects to internet with a Mi account).
If unlock fails at "Can't get info", start unlock process, disconnect USB and reconnect it once the counter hits 99%.
Follow the Installation guide.
| Warning: Flashing lk2nd is required, as it is a hard dependency. Without it the mainline kernel will not select the display panel (resulting in black screen on boot). |
$ pmbootstrap init # choose Vendor: qcom Device codename: msm89x7
$ pmbootstrap install
$ fastboot flash boot lk2nd-msm8952.img # get lk2nd from https://github.com/msm8916-mainline/lk2nd/releases/
$ pmbootstrap flasher flash_rootfs
Dualboot with Android
For dualbooting with Android, what can be done is installing postmarketOS to an SD card and have lk2nd flashed to recovery instead of boot:
$ pmbootstrap init
$ pmbootstrap install --sdcard=/dev/sdcard_goes_here
$ fastboot flash recovery lk2nd-msm8952.img
With this approach, you will boot to Android by default, and you can hold and (or, in custom ROMs supporting this, selecting "Reboot to recovery" in the power options) to boot to postmarketOS.
What works
Audio
Mostly works, but with static noise on the speaker, and garbage noise when PulseAudio suspends the speaker (when not in use). Also does strange noise whenever PulseAudio starts/quits.
Modem
Calls only work over 2G/3G, and without voice.
GPU
Quite buggy. For that reason, GTK4 is rendering in software.
Forcing OpenGL 2.1 / ES 2.0 in games (e.g. SuperTuxKart) makes them playable.
